While it's not quite a release date, Nintendo have announced that Mario Kart 8 for Wii U will release in May worldwide. It's the first appearance of Mario Kart on a Nintendo HOME console since Mario Kart Wii in 2008. That game is the best selling driving game in history so Nintendo would like to see this game do well and help the Wii U.

About time Nintendo got around to making a new Mario Kart.
This will be a "Must Buy" game for my WiiU.

I'm currently playing Donkey Kong Country Returns on my 3DS as I never played the game on Wii and I wanted to finish it before Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze hots Wii U in late Feb. Now that Mario Kart 8 is also due a few months later, I expect I will still get good use out of my Wii U even if I do buy a PS4 or Xbox One soon.

I don't think there's been a Mario Kart to date that I didn't enjoy.
From what's shown the game looks pretty great and it's times like these that I envy those with a Wii U.

Despite the kiddy hate that Nintendo and the Wii U gets, Nintendo consistently produce fun games. Mario Kart hasn't let me down yet and after really enjoying MK7 on 3DS, I'm happy MK8 is continuing in that style.
It's nearly impossible these days to get all the best games by just buying one console which is sad for my wallet as I will probably end up buying all 3 consoles again this gen despite not really wanting to. Such is life!

Yeah I agree with you completely Lum, as I daresay I am looking forward to a few new games to try out on PS4. But there are another half dozen games I want to try on the XBOX ONE as well... Looks like I will be going all out on next gen consoles this year myself. First time ever folks, I will most likely abandon WiiU buy July/August. As once I get the games I want on PS4 & XBOX ONE I will be busy for quite some time I should imagine.  |

This is just making my decision harder now... it's either PS4 or Wii U D:
Considering I was a very, very good racer on Mario Kart Wii, I hope if I do get MK8 I will be able to adapt again to the playstyle... I find that the newer Mario Kart games are beginning to get too complicated, and is more about power ups and silly little gimmicks than it is about fun-fast racing.
It would be awesome if they would add in even more characters and karts to unlock! I remember finally finishing Mario Kart Wii 100% (all karts and characters, all gold trophies and beat all Nintendo Staff times) which took me forever, and actually feeling proud of myself for achieving it! There MUST be a sense of achievement in Mario Kart 8 if it is to truly succeed in my eyes.
Honestly (in terms of spin-offs) I am hoping for another Mario Strikers game... I may be a little biased considering I love football, but Mario Strikers: Charged was easily one of the best Mario spin-offs that has ever been made! It would be quite fitting if they did it in time for the World Cup too...

This is the game that's kept me from trading in my WiiU. Maps don't look like nothing special but I'm sure I'll enjoy the game regardless.

Ive done the easter egg on the dlc1 zombie map in solo on my ps4 folks 
if anyone needs any hints as in how to activate the boss fight going back in time how to play simonsays or how to upgrade all 4 of the bows dont hesitate to ask.
