January 14th, 2014 marked the Awards Ceremony for the brilliant year of football in 2013. This event would award the best male and female players the Ballon D'or and Female Player of the Year respectively, as well as the Puskas award for the best goal of 2013. The FIFA World XI of the best players would also be announced on this night.

There was little surprise over the winner of the Ballon D'or or the Puskas Awards, but controversy was had in the selection of the 2013 FIFA World XI, which saw Bayern Munchen (winners of the UEFA Champions League) have less players (3) selected than Barcelona (4), who they knocked out in the Semi Finals 7-0 on aggregate (4-0, 0-3), and had no players from Borussia Dortmund, who were surprise finalists of the UEFA Champions League this year.
